Dermal Fillers

The dermal fillers that we use in clinic are made from hyaluronic acid - a substance which is naturally found in skin, eyes and the synovial fluid of joints.  Hyaluronic acid is a substance that retains water and is capable of binding over one thousand times its weight in water, making skin look hydrated and plumped.  As we age the production of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and other key substances decrease and as a result our skin loses volume, hydration and plumpness.  Only an injectable hyaluronic acid can restore lost volume in the skin which is why dermal fillers are an ideal treatment option to replace lost volume and hydrate the skin.  There are a variety of different dermal fillers to choose from and selection depends on the area requiring treatment and several other factors.

Your consultation

You will receive an initial face-to-face consultation with your practitioner who will take a detailed medical history and listen to your specific skin concerns and goals to determine a treatment plan suitable for you. Photographs will be taken prior to any treatment to create your own skin journey portfolio.

Your treatment and results

Your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied to your skin to ease treatment discomfort.  This will be left on for 20-30 minutes to take effect.  Results are evident immediately after treatment however the final result is mainly seen around 2 weeks following treatment when any swelling or bruising has settled and the dermal filler has integrated within skin tissue.  Dermal fillers can last between 6 to 18 months depending on the type of dermal filler used, lifestyle choices and the general health of an individual.

There can be some recovery time following a dermal filler treatment which varies between individuals however you can resume most activities straight away avoiding intense physical exercise or heat treatments for the first 24-48 hours to minimise swelling or bruising.
